March for Meals Proclamations Take Place in Williamson and Burnet Counties

This month, Meals on Wheels of Williamson & Burnet Counties will be holding a fundraiser and volunteer drive in celebration of a special March for Meals. Furthermore, this March for Meals honors the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program, the federal legislation that helps to fund community-based programs like Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels of Williamson & Burnet Counties

Meals on Wheels of Williamson & Burnet Counties is an Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties program. This program delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors in our community five days a week. In addition, friendly volunteers provide a wellness check to ensure our homebound seniors are doing well in their home. Therefore, our homebound seniors are able to remain independent and in their homes for as long as possible.

March for Meals

The annual March for Meals celebration, which takes place this month from March 21-25, commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older.

In honor of this law, Meals on Wheels programs from across the country are joining forces for the awareness campaign to celebrate 50 years of success. Meals on Wheels hopes to garner the support needed to ensure these critical programs can continue to address food insecurity and malnutrition, combat social isolation, enable independence, and improve health for years to come.

Interested in giving back? Our Meals on Wheels program is asking for community members to pay for meals or to sign up as a volunteer delivery driver.
